About the Breed

The Vizsla is easily recognized by his sleek golden-rust coat. They can stand between 21 to 24 inches at the shoulder and are the picture of a lean, light-footed hunter’s companion. The long, silky ears frame a facial expression that is sensitive and loving around the house and intense when at work. As a hunter expected to work closely with humans, Vizslas form a tight bond with their owners and hate to be left alone 1.

Athletes of many talents, Vizslas excel at various sports and activities. They are eager and graceful trotters of great stamina, making them ideal jogging or biking companions. It’s been said “If you don’t have the time to encourage this breed’s full use of its brain, you’re wasting a good dog” 1.

" The Vizsla is intelligent, calm, obedient, and easy to train. It is a sensitive dog which becomes attached to its owner and develops a strong but not overly aggressive protective instinct. In the field, the Vizsla is an eager, happy hunter which is at home on land and in the water" 2.

"The Magyar Vizslas (Hungarian Pointers) honour their nomadic masters who roamed the Carpathian plains and valleys ten centuries ago. Herdsmen and hunters, these early Hungarians began the development of companion-hunting dogs to find, point, and retrieve native game, and to tract (sic) wounded large game. Successive generations continued the development of the breed and by the Thirteenth Century the beautiful golden Vizsla was a distinct breed, recognized and prized as a companion-field dog" 3.

As mentioned above, Vizsla’s are masters in the field. Having said this, it is important to underline their desire to be with their human’s. This desire to be in constant contact with their human’s has earned them the title of the “Velcro dog”. As someone who has trained many different gun dogs, this is one of their most endearing traits, along with an ‘’off switch’’ while at home, their presence in the home with the family is almost equal to their abilities in the field.

The Vizsla occupies a position between the extremely fast and long ranging English pointer and the slower closer Ranging German short hair; combining some of the known excellencies of both breeds together with a very distinctive colour, type, practical size and dignified aristocratic bearing which sets him apart. The finely discriminating bird sense is deeply ingrained, in that the Vizsla's home country is and has been for centuries, the low-lying Danube Valley and brad Hungarian plain where the grey partridge thrive on the grain bin of Europe. The Vizsla breed has survived the Turkish Occupation, the Hungarian Civil Wars, World Wars I and II, and the Russian Occupation. The spread of the Vizsla to other parts of the world had changed little from the Middle Ages until 1945. As late as World War II the Vizsla enjoyed protection in selective breeding, as only the remnants of the aristocracy and the large estate owners were permitted by custom to breed 3.

If you are looking for a keen, energetic family dog, eager to learn and spend time with your active lifestyle the Vizsla just might be the breed for you.

Our Breeding Program

Our top priorities are health and temperament. We pride ourselves in creating wonderful

family companions, competitive field trial candidates, and exceptional hunters that are of show quality. Our dogs are members of our family as well as exceptional athletes expected to excel in the field. All potential forever homes are interviewed and approved based on the suitability for a Vizsla. In order to ensure that all our dogs are as successful as possible in their forever homes, we require families to participate in a formalized training program with their dog once they take them home. We encourage families to stay in touch with us and call us with any questions throughout the dogs life.

Our Pups:
  • We plan our litters carefully in order to attain our three main priorities: health, temperament, and confirmation

  • Our puppies are $2800. We take a $1000 deposit when we have a confirmed pregnancy in order to reserve a pup. This deposit is put towards the final balance upon pick up.

  • All our pups come with a 3 year health guarantee and a puppy package.

  • They also have first shots, are vet checked, and dewormed.

  • All puppies sold to approved pet homes are sold with a CKC non-breeding registration and are required to be spayed or neutered.

  • As part of our process our number one concern for our pet pup is matching the puppies temperament to the future owner(s) lifestyle.

  • For the 8 weeks we have them, we do a lot of puppy enrichment with them in order to give them a good start.

If you are looking for an outstanding bird dog to hunt over or to compete in field trials, hunt tests, run agility, master competitive or rally obedience or if you are looking for an exceptional family companion, consider an Onpoint purebred Vizsla puppy!
